Here are some ideas for keeping in touch with your husband while he is overseas.
- Read a book and write your comments in it. Send it to your husband so he can see what you think about it.
- Buy a digital camera for each of you and burn the pictures to
CDs. Send the CDs to each other. Be as candid as possible so he can
see you in everyday life.
- Use a webcam to communicate online, if possible.
- Keep journals and exchange them every month or two.
- Buy a headset for your phone if you can talk to him on the phone.
- Buy stuffed animals for each of you to sleep with, and exchange them in the mail every couple of months.
- Keep the spare set of his dog tags, and wear them. Make a
'date' with each of your dog tags every day at the same time. It is
comforting to know that you are both thinking about the other and doing
the same thing at the same time.
- Keep a running countdown in your datebook/planner.
- Find a battle buddy. You can look online (I recommend www.militarywives.com)
or your FRG (Family Readiness Group). I haven't found that it really
mattered if the friend has a spouse in a different area than my husband
was deployed to. It was more helpful to have a person that understands
what it is like to be a military wife.
- Hang in there!!!!!
